Goals:
AWIS East Bay will be hosting a mentorship program with the goals to provide fresh career perspectives for an evolving workforce, to create a network of support for scientists at all levels of their careers, and to generate informed, skilled, and confident leaders.
How our mentorship model works:
The mentorship program will expand on the traditional two-way mentorship model, what we are calling a “Learning Group”. A Learning Group acknowledges that knowledge flows not only from mentor to mentee, but from mentee to mentor, and peer-to-peer.
A Learning Group consists of 2-4 participants who have interest in discussing topics of common professional interests. We hope each Learning Group member will celebrate the diversity of viewpoints and experiences and enjoy the opportunity to share experiences and give advice on everything from personal challenges to professional topics.
Who should participate:
People from all disciplines, genders, career levels, and US locations are invited to participate!
Time Commitment:
There will be a speed-networking event , a kick-off event for learning groups, and a final panel discussion event in early November. For full details about the program and what to expect, we will send out communications ahead of time.
If you would like to participate within a learning group, complete this interest survey or scan QR code below. Once you complete the survey, you'll receive information for all future events & updates.
Upcoming Events:
Monthly meetings (email, phone, in person). Meet as a group once per month. We will send out suggested topics and guides.
July Highlight: Self-Promotion Workshop (listen to recording here)
November Finale: We will hold a virtual finale/social event in November.
Monthly Group Meetings:
Besides the 3 events above, Learning Groups are expected to have a discussion once per month. Each Learning Group group is self-directed, deciding when, where, and how often to meet. Some groups may decide to meet over breakfast or lunch, others may meet in the evenings or for dinner or wine tastings. Virtual meetings can also be organized if they may be more convenient or because of COVID safety concerns. We will send out suggested topics and guides. These meetings can be about anything, but some themes may include:
