Serve on the East Bay AWIS Board

The East Bay Chapter of AWIS is volunteer run, including elected Board Positions described below. Serving on the Board allows you to shape the direction of the chapter, learn about groups/ activities happening in the East Bay community, and build meaningful connections with other women in STEM. Invest in your network and elevate your leadership skills by becoming part of the Board! If interested in becoming a Board member or attending a meeting, contact ebawis.help@gmail.org

Board Positions and Requisites

Board Member Requirements

Positions are one year terms

The next term will be July 2025- June 2026

All Board Members must be active AWIS members

And maintain their AWIS National membership for their term

Board Members must attend quarterly meetings

Could be virtual or in person, meetings are to brainstorm and set chapter programming 

Secretary and Treasurer can be shared across two people

Ie there can be two co-Secretaries or co-Treasurers


Board Member Roles & Responsibilities

President

  • Conduct Chapter meetings of ebAWIS and preside at Board meetings
  • Coordinate the business and affairs of ebAWIS- set vision/ target on programming for the year.
  • Represent ebAWIS at Northern California and /or national meetings of AWIS. 
  • Submit the ebAWIS Annual Report to National AWIS.

Vice President

  • Assist the President in the performance of presidential duties. Perform the duties of the President in the event of the absence, disability or resignation of the President. 
  • Represent ebAWIS at Northern California and /or national meetings of AWIS. 
  • Perform an annual audit of the financial records of the Treasurer

Secretary

  • Organize Board Meetings. Keep and distribute the minutes of meetings of the Executive Board. 
  • Track chapter membership roster 
  • Maintain ebAWIS shared email accounts and volunteer placement

Treasurer

  • Receive all Chapter donations and other income; keep the monies in an authorized financial institution; and disperse all monies to be paid by ebAWIS. 
  • Maintain financial records for ebAWIS. 
  • Prepare the financial section of the Annual Report to National AWIS

Member at Large

  • Note: can have multiple Members at Large
  • Lead/ assist initiatives of interest (NCC events, scholarships, mentorship, etc)
